Hull clubs release joint-statement over online abuse

Hull and Hull KR have today released a joint-statement following online abuse directed at a player. 

The statement released says that a player has been a victim of online racism by an individual.

The two sides came together during Good Friday’s derby at Craven Park. Tony Smith’s side claimed the bragging rights with a 16-4 victory over a sell-out home crowd.

The joint-statement read: “Hull FC & Hull KR are united in condemning all forms of discrimination and are appalled by online racism from an individual directed towards a Hull KR player following the Good Friday derby.

“An isolated incident of online abuse has been brought to the attention of both clubs and the police, with the clubs unified in urging the toughest punishments possible.

“The player has received appropriate support.

“Along with the wider sport of rugby league, both clubs will continue to do all they can to address discrimination and condemn all forms of online abuse of any kind.

“Anyone associated with online abuse tarnishes the strong reputation of the passionate supporters of both Hull FC and Hull KR, and the proud rugby league community of Hull.”

Rugby League’s TACKLE IT

All Super League, Championship and League 1 fixtures have held a 13-seconds pause before kick-off. This is in support for discrimination in rugby league.

TACKLE IT is the sport’s own anti-racism, anti-discrimination action plan. The plan sets out how rugby league will extend its reach and appeal, diversify its talent pool, improve its culture, and actively deal with all forms of discrimination with a specific focus on areas in need of most attention at this time – racial discrimination and inequality.
