Hughes targets trophy treble for Wire

Warrington forward Jack Hughes has targted top sport for the Wolves, as they head into their final game of the season’s first phase this weekend.

Wire welcome struggling Huddersfield Giants to the Halliwell Jones this Saturday, with the Wolves currently lying a point off top spot in the Super League table.

Claiming that top spot come the end of the Super 8s is something that Hughes thinks Warrington can do, as well as win the Challenge Cup and the Super League Grand Final.

“It’s wide open. We’re going for it,” Hughes told Rugbyleague.com.

“There’s plenty of games left to get that top spot and it’s definitely something we want. We want all three trophies this year.

“We’re definitely building at the right time of the year. I still think we’ve got some work to do on defence but we scored some really good long-distance tries at the weekend.”

As for Huddersfield, defeat at Wire could condemn them to bottom place in Super League, an ignominious comedown from their achievements of recent seasons.

Hughes has played for the Giants in the past, but will have no sentiment for them or their current plight on Saturday.

“I have got a soft spot for them – I’ve got some good friends there,” he said.

“But it won’t be there on Saturday because we want to finish top.”
