Hudgell hits out at Hull KR players

Hull KR boss Neil Hudgell has taken aim at the players at his own club for being “mentally soft” and challenged online critics.

The Robins were sensationally knocked out of the Challenge Cup by Oldham on Saturday. They are also propping up Super League along with Huddersfield.

Hudgell said the squad thought they could just “rock up and win” against the Championship side in the Cup.

“They were mentally soft and too comfortable,” he told The Mirror.

“You’ll find out in due course what I mean by that if things don’t change drastically. The players have been in early the first two mornings of the week, and we will do what’s needed until we get to where we want them to be.

“It’s far too early to assess any reaction – players are skilled at telling you what you want to hear. I’ve no time for words, let’s see actions. Plain and simple, Saturday was down to attitude.

The chairman and head of rugby Jamie Peacock will face Hull KR supporters at a fans’ forum next week.

Hudgell said he is tired of criticism online.

“They will want to know what the plans are to right recent wrongs,” he said.

“I’m also fed up with faceless comments — let’s see who is brave enough to front up.”
