Hudgell confirms KR hunt for replacement halfback
Hull KR chairman Neil Hudgell has confirmed that the club are hunting hard for a replacement for Travis Burns.
Burns, 30, has signed for St Helens in 2015, with Rovers receiving a fee of £60,000 for him.
With Josh Hodgson also having left the club for a significant fee, KR do at least have cash to spend when it comes to finding replacement pivots.
Hudgell also hinted that Rovers would be able to pay out much more in wages next season, and spend to the full salary cap limit.
“Travis leaves with our best wishes,” Hudgell told his club’s official website.
“We sat down with him to discuss his plans for next season and beyond but whilst we were willing to open negotiations about a contract extension around Easter time next year, we weren’t prepared to commit to a new deal before then.
“We understood his desire for stability with a second child on the way and we gave him permission to speak to other clubs. Saints made us an offer that was too good to turn down and we decided to accept it.
“We are now on the hunt for a new half back and the fees received for both Travis and Josh Hodgson will be reinvested into the squad and will allow us to spend to the full salary cap next season.”
