Huddersfield’s Alex Mellor set to face future club Leeds

Huddersfield coach Simon Woolford says he almost offered Leeds-bound back-rower Alex Mellor the week off.

Mellor, 24, has agreed to join the Rhinos on a three-year deal at the end of the season, and the two sides meet on Friday in a game that could be crucial in both side’s fight to move away from the relegation zone.

Woolford said: “It’s a funny one for Alex. I almost offered him the week off if he felt that would be best but his effort has been fantastic since he decided to leave the club.

“I’d imagine he’ll be looking forward to playing this week and showing his new club what he’s capable of.”

Mellor has missed just two games all season for the Giants, who he joined from Bradford ahead of the 2017 season.
