Huddersfield say winger Louis Senior has signed a new contract for 2022 but they are waiting to see if his twin brother Innes will follow suit.

The twins came through the Giants’ academy together and made their Super League debuts within three days of each other in 2018 but spent the 2021 season apart.Louis played in 10 of Huddersfield’s last 13 league games, taking his appearance total to 35. Innes spent the whole of 2021 on loan at Wakefield, making 17 appearances at centre and on the wing.

Huddersfield coach Ian Watson said: “We’re delighted that Louis has chosen to stay at the club.

“At his age, just 21 years old, he has loads of development in him and he gives us great competition and depth in the outside-backs.

“He’s developed well in the last season, playing 10 games and being consistent in his performances when he’s been called upon.

“His athletic ability is akin to none and there aren’t many young players with his build.

“We need his rugby education to continue to make him a better player but he’s going in the right direction and we hope to see him progress to try and force his way into a permanent position in the team.

“We’re delighted to retain him for 2022 and see him continue his progress at Huddersfield Giants.”

Louis Senior sets his goals for 2022

Louis Senior said: “I feel like I’m building every year that I’m here and improving year by year. I’m building and growing in confidence and building upon my own game. I’m getting a little older and I want to work towards a starting position.

“You can see the improvement in a lot of the younger players, myself included. I’m only going to get bigger, stronger and faster so that will help me. There’s lots to learn on the technical side, there’s always things to improve on and I’m only going to get better.

“My short-term goal is to try and cement a starting place in the team, and we’re building towards competing for silverware, things have started to gel together towards the back end of the year and I’m looking forward to a good year in 2022.”

The Giants say they have made Innes an offer and are waiting for an answer.
