Huddersfield lock down Lawrence

Huddersfield have secured the services of Michael Lawrence until the end of the 2019 season.

The 25-year old one club man came through the Giants’ academy and has gone on to make 196 appearances in the top flight.

He has played for the club on the wing, centre, second row and loose forward which is pattern he expects to continue as his career develops.

“The key really is to make sure whatever role I’m asked to play I do it well and keep my place in the team after making the transition to the back row a number of years ago,” Lawrence said.

“I had no hesitation in staying at the club when the offer came and for some it can be a worrying time if you are out of contract at the end of the season but thankfully I’ve no such worries and can keep working towards our goal of bringing silverware to the club.

“I have always been happy here and like to think I’ve played my part in pushing us up towards the top end of the competition.”

Giants Paul Anderson was fulsome in his praise of Lawrence’s contribution to the club.

“He is a fine player and a very good professional,’ he said.

“He has been a virtual fixture in the side ever since I have been here and rightly so, as he is a very consistent, hardworking player and exactly the type every coach would want in the squad which is why it’s great he’s committed to staying here longer term.”
