Huddersfield hope home advantage scuppers Leeds

Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson is hoping for a repeat of last week’s Super League win over Leeds, when the Giants won 28-20.

Anderson’s men welcome the Rhinos to the John Smith’s Stadium once again, this time in the Challenge Cup.

“We are at home, that’s the main thing,” said the Huddersfield coach.

“We will put 17 blokes out there that we know can compete and they are going to give everything they’ve got and work hard.

“If they do that, we have a chance of beating anybody, which we have shown over the last month or so.

“The Cup is very special and we asked the question the other week about who actually has won it. I have as a player and Broughy is the other one.

“There are a few lads that have had the Challenge Cup final experience but there is nothing better than winning it.

“For us to achieve what we want to achieve we have got to win on Friday. Somebody told me last week that we were the last team to beat Leeds in the Challenge Cup and if that’s the case then let’s hope that history repeats itself.”

Leeds assistant coach Barry Eaton confirmed that the Rhinos will change little about their preparations for this week’s game.

“Obviously we played Huddersfield in the league last week and as the draw came out it mean that we would be going there a week later in the Cup,” he said.

“In terms of preparation, nothing will change, it will be as thorough as we always are.

“It was a tight game last week and a great spectacle for the neutrals. The Challenge Cup is a little bit different, it’s knock-out and if you’re not in the lead after 80 minutes you’re out.

“We’re the current holders and we’re going to try to keep hold of it.”
