Huddersfield chairman calls for more fans

Huddersfield chairman Ken Davy has called on the people of the town to come out and back the Giants.

Despite sitting towards the top of the Super League table for the whole of the season, having recorded impressive wins over St Helens, Leeds and Wigan, the Giants are averaging crowds of just 6,344 in 2013, down 1,400 on last season.

Davy told the club’s official website: “The Giants are playing some champagne Rugby League and having already beaten Saints, Wigan and Leeds, this is our best season for 60 years.

“This progress builds on the recent years which have seen us feature in two Challenge Cup finals, four semi-finals and consistently make the play-offs.

“So a crowd of just 5,000 for our Easter Monday game against Widnes was bitterly disappointing and when you see attendances like that it has to pose the question: “Does Huddersfield want a successful Super League club?

“I firmly believe the answer is ‘yes’.

“But we do need more home support – ideally to see it double – if we are to continue to progress.

“As I said, we do have excellent core support; I just wish more people joined us to share the experience of a Giants Super League game, because they will witness such an exhilarating brand of exciting Rugby League.

“I do appreciate it’s a tough financial climate, which is why we have continued to offer free admission for Under 12’s in order to make it an affordable day out for families, but everyone at the Giants does believe we’re still offering fantastic value for money.”
