Huddersfield head coach Ian Watson is confident of having star half-back Theo Fages back for the Super League play-offs.

Fages, 28, was forced from the field during the defeat to Leeds at Headingley Stadium in round 25.

He missed the club’s victory over Warrington on Monday and hasn’t been included in the squad to face Wakefield in the final round.

However, Watson has provided a positive update with the France international set to return for the play-offs next week.

Huddersfield will play their eliminator game on Saturday, September 10, at the John Smith’s Stadium live on both Sky Sports and Channel 4.

Watson provides Theo Fages update

“We’re looking after him,” said Watson. “He did his HIA at the Leeds game and passed it. But he had a little bit of a knock earlier in the season, so the doctor wanted to make sure that Theo was right going forward knowing the bigger picture and everything.

“They’re looking after him the right way.

“He’s been out of training for us this week and has basically been with the medical team. Hopefully he’s right for the play-offs.

“We’re pretty confident he’ll be back. We’re ticking all the boxes if you like at the moment and making sure we’re looking after him. It’s just important we get him right.

“We’ve won a hell of a lot of games without Theo to be fair this year as well. It kind of is what it is at the moment.

“But we’re better off playing with Theo. He’s our main half-back and probably one of the best half-backs in the competition for the way he controls the game.

“We definitely want him back. We’ll be confident either way but fingers crossed Theo will be lining up for the play-offs.”
