How Newcastle Thunder’s squad looks for 2021

Drew Darbyshire

Newcastle Thunder is shaping up nicely ahead of the 2021 Championship campaign.

The North East club won the race for the Championship’s 14th spot for next season – beating Rochdale, Workington, Barrow and Doncaster for a place in the second tier.

Thunder have a blend of experience and youth in their squad so far for 2021 – and former Catalans assistant coach Eamon O’Carroll will take the head coaching reins at Thunder next season.

Outside back Matthew Wright has a lot of NRL experience, having made almost 150 NRL appearances for Cronulla, North Queensland and Manly while earning five caps for Samoa on the international stage.

Newcastle have recruited full-back Calum Turner from Castleford and former Warrington duo Jack Johnson and Sam Wilde from Ottawa.
