How London Broncos are shaping up for 2023

London Broncos 2023

London Broncos boast a squad containing more than 50% of homegrown players for their 2023 Championship campaign alongside a handful of internationals.

Mike Eccles takes charge following his permanent appointment back in September as director of rugby and performance. He previously led the side on an interim basis in 2022 following the sacking of Jermaine Coleman in May.

Fresh from the World Cup, Fiji international Henry Raiwalui headlines the recruitment for the 2023 season. The 33-year-old half-back helped his nation reach the quarter-finals of the delayed 2021 tournament, where they fell short against New Zealand. He has won 12 caps since his debut back in 2011.

Born in Milton Keynes, Marcus Stock is another eye-catching signing made by Eccles, joining from York. The prop forward, 26, made 72 appearances for his previous club.

Italy internationals reunite in the capital

Italy international Ethan Natoli has made the move from Sydney for the upcoming Championship campaign. The 27-year-old can feature at either loose forward, back-row and centre. He most recently represented Newtown Jets in the NSW Cup, and has made seven appearances for Italy.

Natoli joins international team-mates Dean Parata and Ronny Palumbo in the capital, having all featured at the recent World Cup.

Wellington Albert became the first player to re-sign for the 2023 campaign and returns to pre-season fresh from representing Papua New Guinea at the delayed 2021 World Cup.

Cook Islands outside-back Paul Ulberg has also re-signed, having scored 14 tries in 24 appearances in his debut year.

Elsewhere, Australia-born full-back Jarred Bassett makes the move for 2023 from London Skolars. He enjoyed his first year in League 1 by scoring 19 tries in only 16 appearances.

Lewis Bienek is preparing for his fifth season with the Broncos, having returned to the capital last year on a two-year contract. He made his professional debut with the club back in 2016, before featuring in Super League with both Hull and Castleford.

Jensen Monk, Euan Parke and Dan Hoyes have all been promoted from the club’s academy to the first-team ahead of the new season.

Incomings: Sam Davis, Jarred Bassett, Marcus Stock, Henry Raiwalui, Ethan Natoli, Jensen Monk, Euan Parke and Dan Hoyes.
