Hull FC hooker Danny Houghton says he doesn’t deserve the 2016 Man of Steel award.

Houghton was crowned Man of Steel last night over Gareth Ellis and Denny Solomona.

But the hooker admitted he thought he didn’t deserve the trophy.

No I don’t to be fair,” he said.

“I was shocked and taken back when they announced my name. I was shocken when I got shortlisted and wwhen I got it, I couldn’t believe it.

“I couldn’t stand up. To beat Denny Solomona was freakish but to beat Gareth Ellis… no words can describe that. He’s scary what he does for this club, he’s a freak.

“He’s the best person I’ve ever played with. Every time he puts on that shirt for Hull FC he raises that dressing room tenfold. I can’t beieve I beat him to it to be fair.”

Houghton was the first Hull FC to ever win Man of Steel and came in a season where he led Super League in tackles and won the Challenge Cup at Wembley.

“It’s just been a dream season. Obviously we won the Challenge Cup and I succeeded in my boyhood dream. That was my dream, to win that trophy.

“To win this as an individual accolade, the best one you can win. Not to be the first person from Hull to win it, but to win it in general, it’s special and it’s something that I’ll awlays live for and always cherish.”
