Houghton hurt after England omission

Hull FC hooker Danny Houghton admits he was devastated to miss out on England selection this year.

England coach Wayne Bennett has picked Josh Hodgson and Daryl Clark as his two hookers for the Four Nations, with Houghton overlooked.

“I was spewing and devastated,” Houhgton told The Hull Daily Mail.

“I’m still stinging a little bit but that’s the nature of the game and the position. The hooking role is a prized asset.

“There are some great nines out there. The two players in there will do a great job anyway.

“It’s [playing for England] something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ll do my best again next year and try and force my way in.”
