Hornets coach backs All Golds

John Stankevitch feels the positives definitely outweigh the negatives concerning the bold move of the All Golds.

Yesterday’s announcement that the University of Gloucestershire All Golds will compete as part of Championship One in 2013 has interested many.

Rochdale coach Stankevitch thinks that although there will be some issues it should be good for the sport.

He said: “It will expose an outreach area for rugby league, it will be a big help to player development in the South-West and will mean a bigger catchment area for all clubs.”

“It will be tough for fans to get to the South-West, it is a lot to ask. I would not expect a club like us to take a lot of fans if we were to play them.”

“This means that while the South-West has never been a big rugby league area the support for the All Golds from their own fans needs to be good.”

Stankevitch’s Hornets side overcame the South Wales Scorpions 46-24 last night in a Northern Rail Cup match. Both teams were already out of the competition.
