Home games crucial for Featherstone, reveals Duffy

Featherstone Rovers coach John Duffy has said that they want to turn the LD Nutrition Stadium into a fortress this year.

The Rovers put in a strong second half display to beat full-time club Toulouse Olympique at home last weekend, with Duffy’s men also beating Halifax the week before.

And the former Scotland assistant coach revealed that home games are crucial for the club’s development this year.

He said: “I was extremely pleased with how we played. It was a huge result for us against a very good Toulouse team.

“Toulouse are a top side in this division, with great players across the park, so to pick up a win over them at this early stage in the season is crucial.

We now we can play well and be a threat, which is something we wanted to show the home fans.

“We want to turn the LD Nutrition Stadium into a fortress this season and we are heading in the right direction.”

Featherstone will travel to the capital this weekend for a Championship against London Broncos at the Ealing Trailfinders Sports Club.

And Duffy said that he is looking for an even better performance from his side in London.

He added: “We have been working to change people’s perceptions of us and I think glimpses of this are already shining through.

“We have not yet hit our straps but Sunday was a massive improvement and has set a benchmark for how we mean to go on.

“We are looking forward to Sunday’s trip to London. They are another tough full-time team to face and we are relishing the challenge.”
