Outside back Jy Hitchox has agreed to a new contract extension with Castleford to stay with the Tigers until the end of 2018.
Hitchcox joined the Tigers from Championship side Featherstone Rovers at the beginning of this year. He made a double try-scoring debut as a last second replacement for Joel Monaghan against Hull FC in Round three.
Since then Hitchcox has continued to impress while continuing to play despite having a hand injury.
The former Gold Coast Titans, Melbourne Storm and Manly Marlins (rugby union) man has racked up more than 60 New South Wales Cup appearances and has also represented Australia at Under-18 level, touring and playing three tests against England and France earlier in his career.
“I’m really excited!” Hitchcox said.
“It’s obviously a great club and I’m growing to love it here in Cas! Everyone has been really welcoming to me and I’ve made some good mates since I arrived. There’s a real good vibe throughout the club, all the way from the staff, the young players to the first team players, I’m really liking it.
“I love playing here, it’s the most vocal crowd that I’ve been part of, they are really something!”
Daryl Powell, Tigers Head Coach, has been impressed with the winger’s form: “Jy Hitchcox has shown so far what a good quality player he can be in Super League.
“His speed and footwork have caused plenty of trouble to defences and I’m confident he will continue to improve within our environment. I am delighted he has agreed a two year extension and I look forward to working with him during that time.”
Tigers CEO Steve Gill has been proud to see Hitchcox step up to the plate: “I am really pleased for Jy, he really deserves this opportunity at Castleford Tigers. I believe the best is yet to come from Jy and we look forward to him becoming a regular front line player.”
