England prop Chris Hill has been appointed as captain of Warrington for 2016.

Hill has made 132 appearances for the Wire since joining the club in 2012. The front-rower was vice-cpatain to Joel Monaghan last season.

“Chris has been a leader at the club for a number of seasons,” Warrington coach Tony Smith said.

“We see on a week to week basis his leadership qualities out on the pitch. However, his attitude towards training and how he conducts himself off the pitch is also first class.

“Although Chris will be named as captain we have a number of other players who provide fantastic leadership and will support Chris in his role.”

Hill said he feels immensely proud to be appointed captain.

“There have been a number of great leaders and captains who have gone before me so to be added to this list is quite humbling,” he said.

“There are a great number of leaders within the group so, no doubt, throughout the year they will all have valuable input and hopefully support me in this role.”
