High winds cause Castleford stadium damage

High winds overnight have caused considerable damage to the Mend-a-Hose Jungle, home of Castleford Tigers.

The damage had put tomorrow’s friendly against Bradford, for Andy Lynch’s testimonial, in doubt but the safety officer has since confirmed it can still go ahead – but with the Princess Street stand close.

A Tigers club statement said: “This incident again highlights the great need for a new stadium for Castleford Tigers to enable the club to grow and compete at the highest level.

A special planning meeting is to be held in Wakefield on February 6 when councillors will consider applications for four major new developments in Glasshoughton, including a new stadium for the Tigers.

There have been delays with the application after concerns were raised that it could have a detrimental effect on trade in Castleford town centre.

The club are asking fans to support their cause by visiting this link.
