Australian stand-off Connor Higgins will play for a Salford reserve team in a friendly against Oldham on Sunday.

Higgins, who holds a British passport, is on a three-month trial with the Reds having arrived from South Sydney.

He will be joined in the team by five other members of the senior squad – centre John Fordo, half-back Mark Sneyd, full-back Jack Holmes, loose-forward Will Hope and prop Jordan Walne.

It marks the first outing as Oldham coach for former Salford centre Scott Naylor, who has added 12 new faces to the Roughyeds squad, including Reds hooker Adam Files on loan.

The two clubs announced a partnership in the close season, following the re-struturing of the game below first team level.

It will give Naylor the chance to look at Salford’s youngsters, of whom he can sign up to five on dual-registration this season.
