Heworth ready for strong start to 2016

LoveRugbyLeague.com are delighted to be sponsoring one of the most famous clubs in the amateur British game – Heworth – for 2016. Keep an eye on our website on social media throughout the Summer as we follow the club in the Yorkshire Men’s League.

Heworth are fighting fit and raring to go for the 2016 Yorkshire Mens League season, thanks to an expert pre-season strength & conditioning programme with new sponsors Crossfit Jorvik.

The constantly varying high intensity nature of Crossfit has provided Heworth with ideal preparation for a tough season ahead, under new leadership of former Leeds and York pro George Elliott. Not turning 25 until September, the former dual-code England junior international has become one of the youngest open age head coaches in the British game. And with Heworth’s first game of the season on Saturday – a Forty/20 Cup game against city rivals York Lokos at Elmpark Way – he is excited by what he has seen from his new team over the last eight weeks leading up to this day:

“I can’t wait to get started now! After a tough few seasons at the club I’m pleased to report that I have a strong squad of positive, young players who are very much looking to prove a point to themselves and the people of York.”

“We open the season at home on Saturday against our local rivals and we certainly want to set a benchmark for ourselves and the year ahead. The boys are well prepared for it thanks to Peter and his expert help at Crossfit Yorvik. Being a former rugby player himself, he knew exactly what to prepare the boys for, and as such the whole squad has followed a tough but hugely enjoyable program at his gym and we can’t thank him enough.”

“We’ll be back through the season to keep our strength up for when the going really gets tough!”

The Villagers will be sporting a brand new kit from specialists O’Neills in 2016, bringing it back to their famous no nonsense black & white hoops – colours the club have worn with such distinction at the top of the amateur game over the years, and will once again do so as the club begins its long journey back to the top.

The club celebrates its centenary in 2022 and has a long term plan to be back at the top end of the National Conference League by then, and LoveRugbyLeague.com will be keeping a close eye every step of the way!
