Hetherington saddened by Bulls’ situation

Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington has acknowledged his sadness at the demise of the Bradford Bulls this week.

The Bulls have been confirmed as going into liquidation, and Hetherington hopes that it is not the end for professional rugby league in the city of Bradford.

“Clearly it is not good news for the sport and especially those who have given so much to the club and who are now suffering the most,” he told his club’s official website.

“But the RFL’s decision to retain them in the Championship, if a new and credible owner emerges, is a sensible and pragmatic one.

Bradford Bulls contributed more to the sport than any other club in the first 15 years of Super League and the game needs a strong and vibrant club in Bradford.

“Let’s hope that a new beginning can emerge from the ashes of the recent past and I am sure I speak on behalf of all Leeds Rhinos fans in hoping this can be achieved.”
