New Zealand Warriors second rower Ben Henry has been ruled out for the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in training.

Henry, 21, has made seven appearances this season, with the Warriors languishing near the borrom of the NRL ladder.

Warriors coach Matthew Elliot said: “”It’s devastating for Ben, for everyone. It hurts that much more because Ben has been one of our best players so far but he’ll get the best of care and support from everyone here in his recovery.

Henry joins Sione Lousi and Steve Rapira in the treatment room, who have both had surgery after having their campaigns ended by ACL injuries.

Elliot said: “While injuries will always be part of the game it’s hugely disappointing for guys like Ben, Sione and Steve to be sitting out the year. We really feel for them.

The Warriors won’t name their team to face Newcastle until an hour before kick-off.
