Henderson to miss Saints cup tie

Gateshead hooker Andrew Henderson will miss Saturday’s Challenge Cup quarter final against St Helens following the death of his father.

The former Castleford man will return to Australia to be with his family after Henderson Senior’s death earlier today and the club say a return date is not known.

Chief Executive Rod Findlay said: “I was really sorry to hear of Andrew’s loss. I know that Andrew will be very upset and he will just want to get back with his family in Australia. Our thoughts are with them all at a time like this. When we learnt of the situation we did everything we could to help Andrew get back to his family.”

Thunder captain Neil Thorman said: “The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Hendo [Andrew Henderson] and his family and we can’t say how sorry we were to hear of his father’s death. The death of his father really puts into perspective what is important in life.

“Hendo needs all of his friends and family at a time like this. We have a big game this weekend but Hendo has done the right thing going back to see his family. We will miss his experience on Saturday but the 17 man squad have a job to do.”
