Henderson extends with London
Andrew Henderson has extended his time at the helm of the London Broncos for a further two years, taking him through until at least 2018.
Stepping up to the role in 2015 after then head coach Joey Grima stood down, Henderson has worked hard to build a strong and determined squad within a cohesive club to turn the Broncos’ fortunes around.
Under the guidance of Henderson London went on to finish second in the 2016 Kingstone Press Championship season, and subsequently a very respectable sixth in the Super 8s Qualifiers.
Henderson said the club’s main goal is promotion back to Super League.
“I’m thrilled to be staying on with the Broncos, and really excited about what this team and the club can achieve moving forward,” he said.
“I have certainly faced some challenges during my time here – so far as you would in any coaching role – but I love it.
“I truly believe we can re-establish this club back in the top flight in the future and I intend to see this through.
“I have great support in Danny Ward and Jamie Langley, Mike Eccles and Dan Watson, amongst the many other great support staff and players that are contributing to re-building this team and club.
“My family have really settled into life in London which is a huge plus, and they’re loving it down here.
“What we, as a club and a team, achieved last season is simply the result of hard work, sacrifice and a commitment to each other.
“Our aim is to continually improve and be better year on year – individually and collectively – and I intend to push that message home again this year.
“We’re on the cusp of something great – we’ve had a full season at our new home, we’ve got all three squads playing and training well under the one roof, and we’re continuing to make strides as a club both on and off the field.
“As I’ve said before, our goal is to get back to the Super League. So long as we continue to keep our focus, work hard and conduct ourselves in the manner that we are, I think it’s something we’re very capable of achieving.”
Chairman of the Broncos David Hughes said: “What this team has achieved in the last season alone – led by Andrew and his staff – has been fantastic.
“Our turnaround from competing in – and losing – the Championship Shield in 2015, to hosting a home game against Leeds Rhinos in the Super 8s in 2016 is something this club is incredibly proud of, and rightly so.
“Long may the good work of the players and staff continue, and I, for one, am very pleased that Andrew will be around for at least another two years to oversee it.”
