Helliwell signs Hawks deal

Hunslet Hawks have announced the signing of Luke Helliwell from Keighley Cougars on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old, who usually plays at half back, was with the Bradford Bulls as a junior and also had a short spell with the York City Knights.

Commenting on the announcement, Hawks Director of Rugby Darren Williams said “Luke will be another quality addition to the squad he was Keighley’s first choice half back until injured mid way through last season and he’s a tough defender who possesses a good kicking game.”

Meanwhile Williams revealed that experienced back row forward Richard Blakeway has signed a 12 month contract extension despite earlier indicating it was likely he would leave the club.

Williams also stated that Rob Kelly has been released and has joined Thornhill Trojans.
