Hayne hit by setback

Jarryd Hayne‘s recovery from a hamstring injury has been hit with a fresh setback after the test fullback picked up a leg infection.

The news is a fresh blow to Hayne, who missed Australia‘s Four Nations campaign after picking up an injury in training.

But Eels officials say Hayne can still be ready for the NRL‘s opening round.

A statement on the club website said: “He still has four more weeks of rehab to complete before he is back to full training.

“Despite this latest setback Hayne is confident of completing a solid pre-season after Christmas and wll be back to top form as soon as possible.”

Newly-installed coach Stephen Kearney will be keen to see Hayne back in the fold as he looks to improve on last season’s disappointment.

Kearney replaced former St Helen’s boss Daniel Anderson as head coach in October after Anderson failed to reach the play-offs.
