Hunslet have continued the retention of their Championship 1 winning squad by handing new contracts to David Clayton and Luke Haigh.

Clayton, 22, and Haigh, 23, have both signed one-year extensions at the South Leeds Stadium.

Director of Rugby Darren Williams said: “David found himself over the whitewash with regularity and he proved one of the best defenders in the League while Luke joined us in December and missed our pre season but still cemented his place in the team with some solid displays.”

Williams added: “We hope to tie up the remainder of our current players over the weekend before turning our attention to a number of identified targets.”

Hunslet have already re-signed player-coach Paul March, his brother David, Tommy Haughey, George Rayner, Danny Grimshaw, John Oakes, Scott Woodcock, Rob Kelly, Joe Helme and Richard Chapman.
