Have your say: Should we scrap the League Leaders’ Shield or keep it?

There has been a lot of debate surrounding the League Leaders’ Shield within the last week and we want to know if you think we should keep it or get rid.

St Helens well-deservedly lifted the League Leaders’ Shield after their win over Hull FC at the Totally Wicked Stadium last week after an outstanding Super League season.

But the players received a lot of stick on social media and in general for the way they celebrated it.

Love Rugby League editor James Gordon has done a column on the League Leaders’ Shield, stating that the League Leaders’ Shield should be scrapped and ‘be made into something worthwhile’.

The prize money for winning the League Leaders’ Shield is £100k, along with the shield, of course.

Wigan Warriors star Sam Tomkins made some bold comments a couple of weeks ago about not expecting Saints to celebrate it much, and he was right.

Some people think the League Leaders’ Shield isn’t celebrated enough because the Grand Final is seen as the ultimate prize nowadays.

Others believe teams do not celebrate it as much because it is basically a plate and a lot of spectators regard it as the ‘hubcap’. More people want a trophy like the Challenge Cup or Super League Grand Final trophy.

Many fans have suggested that there should be a bigger prize for finishing top of the league, such as more prize money and a guaranteed place in the Grand Final, as well as the shield/trophy.

And a minority want to see the League Leaders’ Shield scrapped unless something is done to enhance its meaning.

We want to know what you think…
