Harlequins have announced signing of Oliver Wilkes from Wakefield.

The 29-year-old has signed a two year deal which will see him at the Twickenham Stoop until the end of 2011.

Wilkes brings with him to London a wealth of Super League experience having enjoyed spells at Huddersfield Giants, Wigan Warriors and, for the past two seasons, Wakefield.

His consistent performances throughout 2008 led to his selection for Scotland’s World Cup squad in which he played an instrumental role, scoring the winning try in their victory over Fiji.

Wilkes said he is looking forward to his move to the capital: “I’m very excited about my move to London with Harlequins. I’ve been an admirer of Brian McDermott for a long time now and the set up at the club is first class.

“I’m looking forward to furthering my own career and helping to develop rugby league in London.”

Harlequins Rugby League head coach, Brian McDermott commented: “Wilkes has been a consistent performer in Super League for a number of years and we’re very pleased he’s chosen Harlequins.

“In Wilkes we have signed a very athletic and fit player to add to our already hard working pack.”
