Ian Hardman has been named as Featherstone Rovers’ captain for next year while Martyn Ridyard will be his deputy.

Hardman, preparing for his tenth year at the LD Nutrition Stadium, captained the Rovers alongside Misi Taulapapa last year.

Rovers head coach, John Duffy, believes Hardman is a brilliant skipper.

He said: “Ian is a fantastic leader and a figure the boys really look up to.

“I can leave him with a task and trust he can lead the team to deliver it.

“His knowledge of the game is second to none and he is one of the most genuine players I have ever come across.

“Since arriving at the club, he has shone as a leader and will do throughout the course of 2018.”

Former Scotland assistant coach Duffy has also handed new recruit Ridyard the vice-captaincy role.

And Duffy thinks the former Super League half-back’s communication skills can add a lot to the team this year.

He said: “Martyn has come here and quickly made his mark on the team.

“He boasts fantastic leadership qualities and is one of the best leaders we have when under pressure.

“His calm vibe rubs off on everyone and he is going to be a big asset to us this coming season.”
