Hardaker questions Bennett’s England plan

Zak Hardaker says English players born in England and who play in Super League are good enough for the national team.

Hardaker has questioned Wayne Bennett’s reported plan to call up Australian-born NRL-based players for England, such as Chris McQueen and Blake Austin.

“It’s a touchy subject at the moment – I think in Super League we’ve got some terrific players, it’s a great competition,” he told Fox Sports Australia’s NRL 360 program

“When we’ve got English guys living in England and playing in the Super League week-in, week out, it’s a bit difficult to probably go elsewhere when someone is probably Australian and their dad or their grandad is another nationality.

“It’s up to the Rugby League and it’s up to England at the end of the day but I’d go for English players who were probably born in England and play in the Super League.

“It’s a good enough competition, like we showed last year against New Zealand. I know they had a few injuries themselves but we had a really good victory.

“We’re definitely good enough, so why not pick us?”
