Halifax have signed youngster Sam Hewitt on a season-long loan from Super League side Huddersfield.

The 21-year-old back-rower or centre has made 23 appearances for the Giants since making his first team debut back in 2018.

Halifax coach Simon Grix said: “Sam had a great year last year with some strong performances for the Giants.

“He’s motivated, in a similar position to Amir (Bourouh) in terms of game time opportunities and wants to play at the top of the game therefore will need to perform well to get the shot so it’s a win-win scenario.

“Having had Sam on DR (dual-registration) before we know what we are getting, both player and person, so we look forward to him joining us, adding to the competition within our forwards.”

Hewitt said: “If you look at the the ambition of the club with the quality of signings that have been made and already within the squad its obvious that the goal come the end of the season is to be right up there and with a chance to win something and thats important for me – I want to win.”

“I think the squad will be definitely aiming for a top four finish with the aim to win something at the back end of year and I believe with quality in the squad that is a very realistic goal.”
