Halifax lure huge forward from Batley

Halifax have signed towering back-rower Paul Brearley from Batley for the 2020 season.

The 27-year-old, who stands at 6ft 7in, scored six tries in 25 games for the Bulldogs in the Championship this term.

Halifax coach Simon Grix said: “The first thing is that he is a big thing at 6ft 7in and he’s got the versatility to play in a couple of positions.

“He’ll bring some size but he’s got good skills and runs good lines, too.

“We noticed him when we played them at home and when we knew we were going to be losing Shane Grady, then Paul was someone we wanted to take a closer look at.

“He had the option of staying at Batley and I know there were a few other clubs interested in him as well but he’s chosen to come here.”
