Halifax and Hunslet complete NRC line-up

Halifax ran in ten tries to see off Whitehaven and secure their passage to the quarter-finals of the Northern Rail Cup.

Needing just a draw to ensure progress, Halifax battled back from 6-0 to run out comfortable winners, with Paul White, Rob Worrincy, Joe Chandler and Sean Penkywicz all scoring two tries each, and Danny Jones kicking ten from ten.

Whitehaven, who had to win to make it through to the last eight, had taken an early lead through Scott McAvoy‘s 15th minute converted try, but they had no answer to the Championship winners.

The result means that Hunslet Hawks also go through to the quarter-finals, alongside Widnes, Leigh, Featherstone, Batley, Dewsbury and Toulouse, who all secured their passage more than a fortnight ago.

The draw for the last eight will take place at half time of the York v Sheffield game in the Championship, televised by SKY Sports on Thursday, March 17.
