Haggerty named Championship Player of the Week

Kurt Haggerty is the Premier Sports Player of the Week after scoring a hat-trick of tries in Barrows Raiders’ 36-22 win over Dewsbury Rams.

Haggerty’s performance was a key factor in Barrow claiming their first Kingstone Press Championship victory of the season, and coach Darren Holt has double reason to celebrate after the Raiders were also awarded the Performance of the Week.

Each week every coach in the Kingstone Press Championship – and Championship One once it begins – is consulted to help select both a Premier Sports Team of the Week and Player of the Week

A top five will then be formed for the individual award, with the points awarded counting towards the Championships’ Player of the Year accolade.

The weekly awards will also see a team performance and try of the round selected, while inclusion in the Premier Sports Team of the Week will count towards the end of season selections for the two competitions.

Premier Sports Player of the Week – Kurt Haggerty (Barrow Raiders)

Second rower Kurt Haggerty scored a hat-trick of tries to help Barrow Raiders to their first win of the Kingstone Press Championship season.

The former Widnes Vikings player has been one of coach Darren Holt’s most consistent performers to date this season, despite Raiders starting with five straight defeats.

He was again influential as Barrow overturned a 0-22 deficit against the Rams.

“Kurt scored three tries for us but his defence was rock solid as well,” Holt said.

“Some of our players really fed off him and that made a big difference for us.”
