Danny Grimshaw has signed a new one-year deal to stay with Oldham in 2017.

The former Hunslet Hawks halfback, who is currently being rested because of a long-standing groin problem, has played most of his 19 games for Roughyeds this year in the centre.

He is unlikely to play against the Sheffield Eagles at Bower Fold on Monday but he is expected to be back in action before the end of the season next month.

Coach Scott Naylor said he was delighted the 30-year old will again be in Oldham colours in 2017.

“He gives us a lot of experience. He’s tough too. And he’s proved himself  a very good addition to the squad,” Naylor said.

“He’s been unlucky with injuries, but he’s always keen to put up his hand and have a dig and that’s one of the things I like about him.

“He’s also prepared to play in positions other than his preferred halfback spot and it’s good to have players in the squad like that.

“I’m sure that in 2017, with his injuries cleared up and following a good pre-season here, he will have a fantastic year.”
