Greg Inglis closes door on Origin and NRL return

Warrington’s superstar recruit Greg Inglis has confirmed he will not play Origin or in the NRL for the rest of his playing career.

The 34-year-old retired from the game in April 2019 but has come out of retirement to take up a one-year deal with Warrington in Super League.

Inglis confirmed he will not seek to follow in the footsteps of former Warrington favourite Allan Langer, who answered an SOS call from then Queensland coach Wayne Bennett to play Origin for the Maroons back in 2000.

Inglis said: “I answered the SOS call last year and I said ‘no’. I left the rep arena on good terms and I’d hate to go back and undo a lot of the good stuff that I’ve done there.”

Inglis, who has earned 39 caps for Australia and played 32 times for Queensland, says the only time he will go back to the NRL if it was in a coaching capacity.

He added: “I think the NRL door is completely closed. I think if I was to go back to the NRL then it would either be welfare or coaching.

“I really enjoyed coaching the junior guys in the pathways at Souths. I didn’t think I’d enjoy coaching and it wasn’t something I was aspiring to but if I was to go back to any form of NRL then it would be a coaching role.”
