Gower management denies Rabbitohs move

Craig Gower’s management has denied that the scrum half is set to sign a contract with South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Speculation has suggested that Gower will line up with Souths in 2012 after his contract with French rugby union club Bayonne has finished.

However, Gower’s manager Greg Willet says there has been no approach from the Rabbitohs.

“I haven’t had an offer from Souths,” said Willett. “I haven’t had a contract from Souths and Craig hasn’t signed anything from Souths.

“I haven’t even spoken to Souths about an offer. I just don’t know where all of this has come from.”

Gower, 32, has had offers from Penrith Panthers and Italian rugby union side Treviso, as well as preparing for this year’s rugby union World Cup.

“He’s got to go back to France and play with Bayonne then he’s got to check through the offer from Treviso for the next two years,” continued Willett.

“I don’t think he’ll play for Bayonne but Treviso is near Venice and he might go there. He’s got the World Cup for Italy at the end of the year, so we just don’t know where it stands yet.”

It has also been rumoured that Wigan scrum half Brett Finch might follow current Warriors coach Michael McGuire to Redfern, but Finch’s manager Steve Gillis has denied any knowledge of such a move.

Finch is contracted at Wigan until the end of 2012.

“I spoke to him this morning,” said Gillis. “He’s happy and it’s going well. They had a good win on the weekend and I’m pretty sure he’s full steam ahead.

“I think a lot of the rumours were speculation, he’s never told me he wasn’t happy there.”
