Gould in Panthers coach hunt

Phil Gould says he is “pretty confident” of landing the right man for the head coaching role at Penrith.

Panthers General Manager of Rugby League Gould said in a radio interview that the club are not looking to re-instate Matt Elliott.

He instead made clear the club’s intention to appoint a new head coach.

He told presenters on the Monday Night Football show on Triple M: “Matt Elliott’s contract ends at the end of the season. That decision has already been made.

“We’re on the lookout for a new coach”.

Gould, who joined the Panthers earlier this month, admitted his first fortnight had been a steep learning curve.

“The first two weeks were a mission of discovery.

“I’m pretty confident I know what sort of coach we’re looking for. I’ve got a couple of blokes in mind.

“I would hope sometime in the next fortnight we’re ready to make a decision”.
