Tom Burgess says international team-mate George Williams could have a similar impact in the NRL to that of Gareth Widdop.

Burgess has played alongside Williams on the international stage for England, with the latter having already earned 10 caps for his country, despite only being 24.

Williams will leave hometown club Wigan to take up a three-year contract with Canberra Raiders in the NRL from 2020.

Fellow Englishman Widdop has made 196 appearances in the NRL for Melbourne Storm and St George Illawarra Dragons, scoring 43 tries and kicking 415 goals. He will move to Warrington in 2020.

Burgess told The Canberra Times: “He’s in the same boat as Gareth Widdop.

“He could do what Gaz has done. He can really go on and do some great things.

“He’s got a great running game, George. He can do some freaky things with the ball. I’m really excited to see what he can do out here.”

Watch NRL and live stream every NRL game to keep up with how the Burgess boys, John Bateman, Ryan Sutton, Elliott Whitehead, James Graham and all the others are getting on Down Under.
