Gelling belives Wigan deserved to beat Warrington

Wigan threequarter Anthony Gelling feels that his team deserved their tight win over Warrington in the play-off semi-final on Friday evening.

The Warriors eventually triumphed 16-12, with Gelling crossing for the team’s second try. The Wolves fought hard, though, and recovered from early pressure to really take the game to the end.

“It’s very well deserved, I think,” said Gelling of the win.

“It was really tight, there were a lot of nerves going into that one.

“[Warrington] did really well to come back, I thought we took a lot out of them in that first 20 minutes.

“I thought they were quite drained, but they went ahead in the second half.

“Full credit to us for hanging in there and getting the win.”

Gelling is now relishing the chance to play against Wigan’s local rivals St Helens at Old Trafford in next week’s Grand Final.

“It’s a big derby and I’m expecting a big crowd,” the Kiwi added.

“If it’s anything like the atmosphere tonight it’ll be an awesome game.”
