Gateshead hooker out for a month

Gateshead hooker Will Bate has been ruled out for up to a month with a finger injury.

Bate picked up the injury a fortnight ago and has been forced to have a pin inserted in to a finger after it was found to be worse than first expected.

Director of Rugby Chris Hood told the club’s official website: “We thought that it was only a small problem due to the fact that he has been able to play with it, but the doctors felt it required more than that, even to the point that he was operated on under local anaesthetic yesterday and they inserted a pin into his finger.”

“It’s another blow, but we will continue to work hard, and Will will be working hard to maintain his match fitness so he can be ready as soon as he is fit.”

Bate missed Thunder’s 64-10 defeat at Oldham on Saturday.
