St Helens breezed past Gateshead on they won their 18th game on the bounce in the Challenge Cup.

The cup holders went in to the game with a strong line-up and were ruthlessly efficient as they swept aside the last non-Super League side from the competition.

Gateshead did get something to cheer about when McAlpine took the ball from Puluetua to race over to the delight of the majority of the 4,325 fans.

For the most part however Saints were in charge with Gidley, Wellens, Flannery and Pryce all scoring twice, with Roby Eastmond and Ashurst also going over.
