Former England international Gareth Hock has been released by Barrow without playing a game for the club.

Hock, 35, moved from Featherstone in the off-season but suffered an injury in a charity boxing bout.

A club statement said: “Barrow RLFC has agreed to the immediate termination of Gareth Hock’s contract with the Club to enable Gareth to pursue alternative opportunities. Both parties wish each other well for the future.

“Barrow Raiders are committed to doing everything possible to remain in the Championship and the funds that are now available will be used to strengthen the squad.”

Hock played 19 times for Featherstone last season and has previously had spells with Leigh, Salford and Widnes.

He made his name at Wigan, making 191 appearances for the Warriors as well as earning nine caps for Great Britain and England.
