Gareth Hock departs Featherstone

Gareth Hock has left Featherstone by mutual consent as the club looks to cut its wage bill.

Hock, 34, joined Rovers from Leigh ahead of the 2018 season and signed a new one-year deal back in June.

But after Featherstone failed to make the Championship top four, they are having restructure their squad ahead of a significant reduction in their central funding.

A club statement said: “Gareth Hock has left the club after agreeing mutual terms for a release from his contract.

“Featherstone Rovers would like to thank Hock for his service and cooperation as the club proactively looks to restructure for 2019.”

Leigh allowed several players to leave ahead of the transfer deadline to cut their wage budget after also narrowly missing out on the top four.
