Gallen won’t give up on Origin III

New South Wales captain Paul Gallen will put a decision on his fitness for Origin III back as late as possible.

Gallen, 31, tore ligaments in his foot during the Blues 26-6 defeat to Queensland last week, and although he is off crutches he still requires a supportive boot for the injury.

He will be named in the squad by coach Laurie Daley on Sunday night and plans to take part in training before the July 17 showdown at ANZ Stadium.

Gallen said, “I’d like to have a run before the game to make sure I’m right.

“I’m sure Laurie (Daley) will give me as much time as I need.”

Should Gallen be forced to pull out, Wests Tigers hooker Robbie Farah will be installed as skipper.

Meanwhile, Jarryd Hayne will return to the NSW side after recovering from the hamstring tear that kept him out of Origin II. QLD are currently favorites at $1.75 odds (courtesy luxbet).
