Gallagher embarrassed by Swinton defeat

Swinton assistant coach Tommy Gallagher was embarrassed and frustrated by their 48-28 defeat to Batley at the weekend.

The Lions shipped nine tries in their home game which was shifted to the AJ Bell Stadium due to concerns over the pitch at Heywood Road.

They trailed 20-4 and 36-16 before rallying back on both occasions, but it wasn’t good enough.
Gallagher said: “We’re a bit embarrassed by it. When we do defend properly, we look decent. We need to look at it.

“It’s frustrating. There were periods in the game where we just didn’t touch the ball and you can’t do that.

“Batley showed us what to do. We just didn’t have the ball to do it ourselves. When we did have the ball, we caused them problems.

“Our defence needs to be better.”

Gallagher addressed the media after the game with head coach Stuart Littler struggling with illness, though he was able to coach the team on the day.

Swinton’s next game is a trip to Dewsbury, who face Rochdale tonight, at the weekend.
