Further setback for Tomkins

Wigan full-back Sam Tomkins has hit a setback in his recovery from injury that could rule him out for a further two months.

Tomkins, 28, hasn’t played yet this season due to a broken foot and was expected to return in April, but has been struggling to run with a plate in his foot.

Coach Shaun Wane said: “He tried to run with the plate and he’s still struggling so we’re debating whether to take the plate out or not.

“If that happens, it’s six to eight weeks. We’re having a chat to the physios and the specialist.”

Tomkins missed the start of last season, his first back in Super League since returning from the NRL, and went on to score seven tries in 16 appearances.
