Workington Town have pulled off a major coup and signed former New Zealand and Tonga international Fuifui Moimoi for the rest of the season.

The 38-year-old has played over 200 games for Parramatta Eels in the NRL. He came to England in 2015 and spent two years at Leigh Centurions, before joining Toronto Wolfpack.

He was sacked by Toronto in the off-season though, following an off-field incident while on a pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Moimoi has recently played for Bradford & Bingley rugby union club, but is delighted to return to rugby league and join League 1 outfit Workington.

He said: “I was at the Bradford match (at the weekend) and as well as a superb win against the league leaders, you could feel the buzz about the place.

“There’s some fantastic players in the team and I’m looking forward to joining them to really push on this season.”

Town chairman, Gary Mounsey, is made up to have secured the front-rower’s services.

He said: “We’re delighted to have captured the signature of Fuifui Moimoi.

“To compete in what is a very tough League 1, we need a good mix of experience and youth at the club.

“In our squad we have some fantastic younger forwards who are getting better and better every game.

“As well as adding even more physical presence to our already impressive pack, Fuifui will pass on his tremendous knowledge and experience gained at the highest international level in rugby league.”

Moimoi will not be available for selection for a couple of weeks due to ongoing paperwork.
